Hip-Hop History: Nas Released His Breakout single “Halftime” On This Day In 1992

Today in Hip-Hop history, Nas released his debut single “Halftime”, under his original moniker of Nasty Nas (October 13, 1992). This classic record was produced by Large Professor and features samples from “Schoolboy Crush” by Average White Band, “Soul Traveling” by Gary Byrd, and “Dead End” by Japanese Hair.

This single lead to the start of Nas’ flourishing Hip-Hop career which lead to his record deal with Columbia Records and the release of his debut album, Illmatic (1994).
